The Orthodox tradition offers a rich treasury of prayers for every moment of the day, every season of the soul, and every need of the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This page offers a collection of essential Orthodox prayers in both <strong>Romanian and English<\/strong>, for use in your personal and family prayer life at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-to-pray-at-home\">\ud83d\ude4f How to Pray at Home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Orthodox tradition recommends establishing a <strong>prayer corner<\/strong> (<em>col\u021bul de rug\u0103ciune<\/em>) in your home \u2014 a small space with one or more icons, a candle, and perhaps an oil lamp (<em>candela<\/em>). This sacred corner becomes the focal point of family prayer, a visible reminder that God dwells with us in our daily lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The daily rhythm of Orthodox prayer includes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Morning Prayers<\/strong> \u2014 offered upon waking, before beginning the day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Evening Prayers<\/strong> \u2014 offered before sleep, in thanksgiving and repentance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prayers before and after meals<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The Jesus Prayer<\/strong> \u2014 throughout the day, at any moment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-sign-of-the-cross\">\u271d\ufe0f The Sign of the Cross<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sign of the Cross is the most fundamental gesture of Orthodox prayer \u2014 made at the beginning and end of every prayer, upon entering a church, when passing an icon, and at many moments throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to make the Sign of the Cross:<\/strong><br>Join the first three fingers of the right hand (thumb, index, and middle) \u2014 representing the Holy Trinity. Fold the remaining two fingers to the palm \u2014 representing the two natures of Christ. Amin.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-jesus-prayer\">\ud83d\udcff The Jesus Prayer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most beloved prayer of the entire Orthodox tradition \u2014 the prayer of the heart, used throughout the day, during work, travel, and all of life&#8217;s moments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Doamne Iisuse Hristoase, Fiul lui Dumnezeu, miluie\u0219te-m\u0103 pe mine, p\u0103c\u0103tosul.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This prayer can be said quietly, silently, or as part of a prayer rope (<em>metanii \/ chotki<\/em>) rule. It is the foundation of the Orthodox practice of <em>hesychasm<\/em> \u2014 the prayer of stillness and inner peace.
