✨ About Holy Week in the Orthodox Church
Holy Week is the most sacred period of the Orthodox liturgical year. Each day carries profound meaning, guiding the faithful through the final moments of Christ’s earthly life — from His triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to His Passion, Crucifixion, and ultimately His glorious Resurrection.
The services, known as Denia (Bridegroom Services), are rich in symbolism, prayer, and hymnography. They invite us to reflect, repent, and prepare our hearts to receive the light of Christ.
🔥 The Night of the Resurrection
The highlight of Orthodox Holy Week Malta 2026 is the Night of the Resurrection. The service begins in darkness, symbolizing the tomb, and at midnight, the Holy Light is shared among all faithful.
This moment represents the victory of life over death, light over darkness, and hope over despair.
🍞 Holy Communion
Those who wish to receive Holy Communion are encouraged to prepare through fasting, confession, and prayer. Opportunities for confession are available during the first part of Holy Week.
🌍 A Community in Malta
